How to Make Your Hair Color Last Longer

You invested in beautiful color. Here is how to keep it looking fresh from the day you leave the salon to your next appointment.
1. Wait before the first wash
Give color about 48 hours before you shampoo. It helps the cuticle settle and locks in shine.
2. Go sulfate-free
Harsh sulfates strip color faster. A color-safe, sulfate-free shampoo is the single easiest upgrade.
3. Wash less, and wash cooler
Every wash fades color a little. Try stretching washes with a good dry shampoo, and rinse with cool water to keep the cuticle closed.
4. Protect from heat
Heat is one of the biggest causes of fading and dullness. Use a heat protectant every time and keep hot tools at a moderate temperature.
5. Block the sun
UV fades color and turns blonde brassy. Wear a hat or use a UV-protecting hair product when you are outside for long periods.
6. Be careful with chlorine
Wet your hair with clean water and apply conditioner before swimming, then rinse right after.
7. Tone between appointments
A salon Toner Service every 6 to 8 weeks refreshes tone and shine, and a purple or blue mask at home once a week keeps blonde from turning yellow.
8. Treat your hair
Healthy hair holds color better. A Deep Condition or Botanical Treatment added to your color appointment makes a visible difference.
9. Book ahead
Root touch-ups every 4 to 6 weeks keep color seamless. Booking your next visit before you leave means you are never stuck with roots before a big event.
